This beauty was caught by David Harley, 14, in a Lexington, South Carolina neighborhood pond. David had been fishing this pond all weekend with no luck. Finally he found a bed and within minutes reeled in this 8 pound bass!
What a great catch David!

Lexington County Monster!
How sweet is the "rut"! While hunting in Lexington County, 13 year old Cole McMillan took his best buck ever while hunting with Coleman and Michael Parks. Cole shot this monster just minutes after getting in the stand while the buck was chasing two does. At 125 yards, he placed the perfect shot. Sporting a 18 1/2 spread and topping the scales at over 202 lbs, this was truly a trophy. Two things made this special: 1) Just 2 days before his father, Mark, missed the monster 2) This prize buck came off a property that Advance is currently marketing to sell. Yes, I bet he has a brother. To view this property – see tract A287.

After working six gobblers for what seemed to be over an hour, a big Tom appeared. He took one look at the decoy and in full stride he was on the decoy within seconds. As Cole was instructed, he waited for another bird to appear for hi brother. Then instantly, another big Tom popped out of the opening in the exact spot Parker was set up. Mark directed “ok on the count of three.” Bang, both birds fell as though it was one shot. What a day! P.S. - the birds are on display in their rooms!

Lee Adams and son Jack enjoy the spoils of a successful youth day hunt in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Congratulations Jack on your first turkey. From your friends at Advance Land and Timber.

Friends of Advance Land and Timber, Dr. Julian Salley, Dr. Mark Salley, and his son Dylan enjoy the spoils of a successful turkey hunt on their family farm. Dr. Mark Salley called in these two longbeards while son Dylan waited patiently for a clean shot. When both turkeys peeked over a small rise, Dylan was ready and fired one shot, killing both birds. Both birds sported 9 ½ inch beards and 1 ¼ spurs. Congratulations Dylan from your friends at Advance Land and Timber!

Shown here are Carl Gulledge and Abby with some of the ducks that their group harvested on one of their out of state trips.

Picture1 This is what I call a “Double Play!” November starts off with a bang for Parker (right) and Cole (left) McMillan, sons of Mark McMillan! They bagged some pretty nice bucks to begin the November rut season. While sitting in Orangeburg County on a fall November evening, Parker bagged his first Buck of the season, a nice spike, weighing in at 130 lbs. After a lot of excitement in the stand, I told him and his brother to sit tight, you never know what will happen in the rut! Well, they learned less than 5 minutes later when this nice 185 lb. 8 point came out. Parker drops him in his tracts. This one will go on the wall. Nice job boys!

Picture2 Some would call this a “Triple Play.” Cole McMillan, son of Mark McMillan, shown with his brother Parker and his nice 6 point, 135 lb. taken the next morning in Orangeburg County. You can tell the rut is in! With doe tags in hand, it was all Dad could do to hold Cole back from bagging a nice doe just 20 yards from the stand. Once he was convinced to wait, he was glad he did! 15 yards away, this nice buck walked broad sided. One shot and the rest is pictures! Great shot! Nice father/son hunt. 2 hunts – 3 bucks!

Picture3 It’s hard to believe the temperatures we’ve had in November in the low 80’s. Days like this sometimes make it hard to go sit in a deer stand, so the best next thing to do in the fall is to catch the red fish schooling off the coast of South Carolina. For Parker’s 13th birthday, he wanted to go hunting or fishing. As you can see from the picture, we’re glad we went to the coast. Parker and Cole landed into a school of 8 to 10 lb. Redfish, and caught this double. We ended up the day catching 10 nice Redfish on a beautiful fall morning. We look forward to the next trip out, because all fish were released. Send us an e-mail, and we’ll get you hooked up with some of the best guides in Charleston. Nice job!

Youth Day 2005 with Advance Land and Timber (For Kids Only!)

At the end of every waterfowl season is a special weekend in which fathers and sons enjoy the outdoors on a special youth hunt day. This weekend is designed for our up-and-coming waterfowl hunters. It is the day when kids only are allowed to hunt, and the dads take the back seat. As you can see from the pictures, this was a very special day for the dads as much as an exciting hunt for the kids.

Blane Hylton, of Hylton Construction, enjoyed a season-ending hunt with his sons Tyler and Tripp, along with Doc. Blane is an avid waterfowl hunter. As the pictures will show, the tradition will continue through the next generation.
Coleman Parks, CEO, Advance Land and Timber with son, Michael (and Mick) enjoyed a sunny morning on youth day where Michael bagged his first green head mallard.
Mark McMillan, President of Advance Land and Timber, along with his two sons, Parker and Cole, and nephew, Mark Allen Nash of Georgetown (and Dixie) picked up a limit of mallards on a successful youth-day hunt. This was a special hunt for Mark Allen, considering it was his first green head mallard. Nice job, guys!

Lesson to Learn

Ray Carpenter and his son, Clint, enjoyed the huntof a lifetime in November while hunting in Williamsburg County, SC. Like father, like son, this duo enjoys the outdoors and the quality time spent together. While occupying a tower stand together, a nice 125+ lb doe entered into Clint's sights. After a select shot, Clint enjoyed the success of this harvest with his dad. Many hunters at this time would have relaxed and maybe even ended their hunt to go back to camp. However, this is where the highlight of the story begins! Less than 5 minutes later, coming off the same trail, this 185 lb., 4-1/2 year old, sporting a 19" outside spread, appeared standing directly over the doe that was just harvested. Clint squeezed off another round and the pictures tell the rest. The great joy of this big buck came when Clint's deer replaced his dad's trophy buck over the fireplace! Great job Clint, and good luck with the upcoming season!

This time it didn’t get away!
This story has definitely earned its ink! Over the years, Carl had watched this buck mature into a quality trophy whitetail. During the 2003 season, he took a shot. He was attempting a neck shot, but the deer turned its head just before he fired. As the picture shows, the bullet went through the deer’s left ear. Carl began the 2004 season with high expectations. He knew the deer he was going to hunt. He wanted another chance at a certain big buck…the one with his trademark! In the early season, just before dusk, he thought he saw him just over 250 yards away. He fired off a shot, this time at the shoulder. One look at the ear told him it was the buck of his dreams! When Carl first tried for him in 2003, he knew he was a trophy, but he had obviously grown over the next season, sporting over 22” inside spread, 8 points with heavy mass, tipping the scales at 238 lbs. Carl has harvested many quality B & C bucks. Needless to say, this one will be on his wall, and he’ll have the story to go with it.
Carl knows what it takes to produce these kinds of results. Much of the land he is selling with Advance lies in parts of the state that produce quality bucks such as this. In order to have quality deer of this magnitude, you have to start with property that can produce quality whitetail. Give him a call and he will be happy to tell you what he has in inventory!
